Midfielder has medical at Manchester United after clubs come to agreement over £24m transfer

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Southampton for midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as Louis Van Gaal’s summer revamp gathers pace.

Schneiderlin underwent a medical at United’s Carrington training base on Sunday, where he joined the other major midfield recruit Bastian Schweinsteiger.

United had an earlier bid of £20million rejected by the Saints for the 25-year-old, who the south-coast club rated at £25million, but a fresh offer believed to be £24million sealed the deal and the Frenchman is now expected to join the club’s tour of the United States on Monday.

He becomes the fourth major purchase of the summer, as Schweinsteiger also headed to Old Trafford for a medical this weekend after delivering an emotional, public farewell to Bayern Munich.
